Milia Removal

What are milia?

Milia are easily identified as milky, white to yellow bumps on the skin. They are round tiny balls of keratin (the protein found in skin, hair and nails), trapped in blind ended ducts within the skin. Unlike spots and blackheads, which have an opening, they cannot be easily extracted without breaking the skin.

Why do they develop?

Commonly found around areas such as the eyes and cheekbones. They are formed by protein, dead skin cells and oils trapped within the skin.  Causes are often linked to genetics, dry skin types, rich and heavy products, poor quality skincare, over use of SPF's, fake tans on the face, and can have a link to diet.

What are the treatment options?

Often Beauty Therapists will use a micro lance to release the milia, as the skin needs to be broken to remove the milia. Advanced Electrolysis is a form of gentle electro-cautery, the most refined and precise method. The probes are pre-sterilised and single-use, superficially inserted into the milia and a gentle heat action is released. The moisture within the milia will dry out  in a hygienic and precise way.

What is the recovery time?

The healing is dependant upon the size of the milia. Following the treatment, a temporary scab/crust will form. This will slough off once the skin has fully healed.

How many milia can be treated at the appointment?

The amount treated will be discussed during the consultation. If you have a large amount, it is advisable to have treatment over two separate appointments.

What is the price of treatment?

Consultation only: £20

Treatment session: £52

*If treatment is received on the same day as the consultation, there is no consultation fee.
